Hillcrest was converted into a red carpet event as the Year 12 Formal was held on campus this year due to COVID-19. Modifications were made to the SLC Courtyard which was transformed into an outdoor alfresco dining room for the Hillcrest Class of 2020.
Students were welcomed to the red carpet by Executive and Deputy Head of College Mr Jeff Davis and Mr Dirk Van Bruggen, before students walked down the red carpet in front of family and friends. Year 12’s then made their way up into the Senior Courtyard through a picturesque archway lit with lanterns and the ambiance made special with lights and music from a DJ on the balcony.
A delicious three-course meal was served followed by a toast from our College student leaders Molly Swanson and Christopher Turner.
Molly reflected they were the year of “firsts” with their cohort being the first year QLD structured Year 7 in high school, first for QLD to sit their ATAR exams, and a first to do online schooling due to COVID. Despite this, Molly mentioned she couldn’t think of anyone else she would rather share these experiences with than her Hillcrest Class of 2020. Christopher and Molly thanked everyone for their contribution in making the night special and to all the staff and supporters who ensured they received a formal.
At 9:30pm students got changed and headed on College buses to “The Happening” which is designed to enable the students to share their special night int the early hours in a fun and safe way. The night included games, a movie, and in a fitting conclusion to the evening the Hillcrest Class of 2020 welcomed the sunrise at Snapper rocks saluted by passing whales offshore.
Arrivals were streamed to Facebook for the Hillcrest Community to share in this special moment. If you missed the video you can watch it by clicking on the link below. (Opens in Facebook)
