Hillcrest Christian College Senior Girls Basketball team will feature in a special seven-episode sports documentary series to be aired on Fox and Kayo supporting a focus on women in sport.
The documentary series called The Season enables viewers to follow the journey of Hillcrest Senior Girls as they strive for glory during 2019 and into the 2020 season. The documentary also follows as COVID impacts sports competitions in 2020.
In what is believed to be a first for schoolgirls basketball in Australia, the cameras follow the team for a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the life of our high performing Senior Girls’ Basketball Team, as they aim for the ultimate basketball achievement.
Executive Head of College, Mr Jeff Davis, said “I am proud of our students. This documentary highlights in an authentic way the personal journey of our players as both individuals and as a team. The documentary also highlights the role Hillcrest plays in supporting students in their personal interests, their overall wellbeing and ultimately their future pathways.”
All students of the Basketball Program balance their passion for basketball with their focus on academics and the non-scripted, co-funded documentary shows how the girls take on these immense challenges as they lead up to the state and national championships.
The documentary will feature on FOXW, a dedicated woman in sport pop-up channel featuring live women’s sports, documentaries, and specials available to watch on Foxtel and streaming on Kayo. The channel will air during April, highlighting the best in Australian and international women’s elite sport.
The Season documentary was created by producer/director Nick Piper of Onion TV Productions. Onion TV adds Hillcrest Christian College to their female sports catalogue joining the award-nominated series with the Adelaide Thunderbirds Netball Team and Rugby Australia Women’s Sevens Team.
All students within the Hillcrest Basketball Program are required to maintain a suitable standard of academic progress and personal integrity while being members of the Basketball Program and the non-scripted, co-funded documentary shows how the girls take on these immense challenges and ride the emotional highs and lows as they lead up to the state and national championships.

The channel will feature during April showcasing the best in Australian and international women’s elite sport.

Hillcrest Christian College has a long tradition as being considered one of Australia’s most accomplished basketball schools with a program that encompasses an elite level of excellence that has spawned representatives at national and international levels. Overseen by International Basketball Hall of Fame member Pero Cameron, the Hillcrest system incorporates an innovative approach to its development by utilising coaching IQ from all areas of high-performance sports to produce a virtual factory for domestic talent.
Together with a robust fixture list featuring international competition, the Hillcrest Open Girls team embarks on their 2019 campaign to secure a state and national title while aiming to further enhance their students’ experience both on and off the court – preparing them for life and for the competition that it brings.
In this engaging series, follow the Hillcrest season, as it moves through pre-season preparation and onto key tournaments while keeping the players focussed and engaged on schoolwork and the challenge of being a student-athlete. The series also takes time to look at the aftermath and effect of COVID on the school program during 2020 as the program suffers injury and disruption to their future planning.
